EP 22 Part 1: The Host (2006)

Yep, this is a two-parter, folks, so please listen to Part 1 and then...you guessed it, Part 2. It’s been a long time since these two have gotten together and this episode’s movie is a long one so, Minki and Tracy have a lot to talk about. Hear Minki and Tracy talk about their first live show experience (which you should listen to if you haven’t already), the short film contest they participated in recently, the horror con they’re going to next week and oh yeah...their

EP 20: Consommé (2016) / In The Night (2015)

After watching last episode’s movie, Minki wanted to watch ANOTHER feminist movie depicting a strong female lead who has to protect herself in an antagonistic world...but this time, one written and directed by a female...since he thought the male writer and director of Teeth wasn’t quite as careful with his storytelling as he should’ve been. So, the hosts chose the first horror short, of the two covered in this episode, because it features a bad ass chick with a “fire inside,” which proves to come in handy when rape-y men come along. Then stay tuned as they hack up the second short for failing to take its decent premise

EP 19: Teeth (2007)

Minki’s been prepping for his big sketch comedy performance and Tracy has been cleaning up dead bunnies from her backyard, but that doesn’t stop them for doing what they do best...watching horror movies, retelling and assessing them. In this episode, they “cut their teeth” on discussing allegories for rape by diving right into the mouth of this subversive, counter-culture film. With motifs of “the avenging angel,” “rape revenge” and “the special gift” prominently used, this dark comedy horror features a lead character who goes from being an abstinent teen to an empowered woman who uses a certain special power to fight off the numerous hostile males in her life.

EP 13: RAW (2016)

Have you ever been so disgusted by a horror movie you passed out or vomited? Doubtful. But, apparently this cannibal, coming-of-age, horror drama made people do just that. So, Tracy and Minki had to make a trip to the theater and check it out. Given they got away without puking up their chicken tenders and tater tots, they think it was just PR, but they still enjoyed this french flick anyhow. They run through a bunch of movies that had the same

EP 06: The Last Time I Saw Richard (2013)

Sometimes you just don’t want to listen to an hour and 20 minutes of Tracy and Minki. They get it. So, they’ve decided to pick a short horror film to retell for this episode. Choosing a winner of an Australian Academy Award, this mini movie doesn’t disappoint, with its exploration of teen anguish and mental health as well as its well done creepy special effects to draw you into the characters nightmares—dreamed or real.

So, maybe they grapple a bit about what happens first, next and last, but Minki and Tracy agree on one thing in this episode: this is a pretty great Spanish horror flick, full of surprising moments and anxiety-inducing scenes. Macarena Gómez, whose portrayal of a religious, agoraphobic seamstress and overly protective older sister, delivers emotions that are so believable that the hosts felt bad for her in moments of sadness and terrified of her in moments of bat-sh_t craziness.

EP 04: Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)

On all of the “top horror movie” lists of 2016, this week’s supernatural spookfest provokes the hosts to uncover what the deeper meaning behind the plot might be, just as the main characters try to uncover the cause of death of one puzzling and unidentified dead girl. With only enough jump scares to not put Minki off, solid acting and one old-timey song, this movie provides a creepy good story to retell.

EP 03: Body (2015)

What do you get when you mix three college age girls who have been drinking and smoking weed, a random game of scrabble, a vacant mansion on Christmas Eve and too many moral dilemmas? This movie. Listen to Minki and Tracy have fun retelling this movie as they both claim they didn’t have as much fun while watching it. Also, Minki talks about his vertigo and Tracy reads their first listener mail.
